Spread the Shred!

Hey forum, I am attempting to make something of a park in a local baseball diamond. It is dug into a bit of a hill so the outfield gives a nice 15 foot entry to the outfield. I just started and got the entry line all set up and am attempting to make a little kicker and maybe a hip transfer or 2. I am planning on going into the woods to find a fallen tree and make a log ride/log rail. Any tips on how to smooth out a surface to jib? right now I am considering just using a hatchet to level it out. Also any ideas on what to do to wax it? Just a giant candle lol or am I gunna have to make a purchase? Anything constructive would be a huge help, and a suggestion or 2 on what else to add to my lines would be great also.
